The site of this well is close to Chapel Farm which is adjacent to the A3079 road from Holsworthy and approx. 1km from Halwill church. There has been much housing development here in recent years (including Holywell Close) and this has destroyed much of the evidence on site. Nevertheless adjacent to the stream I discovered a ruined brick building of seeming 19th century origin and which, according to local information, covered the well. There are memories from an elderly lady who says she remembers as a little girl that water was taken from this well for baptisms. The evidence for the well here includes the place name in Domesday Book where it is described as Halgewella and also field names which mention a chapel. Listed in Devon Sites and Monuments Register
