This site is small stone trough built into the boundary bank alongside the Western Road at Ashburton and close to Pear Tree Cross, the old junction of the roads which led from Totnes, Buckfastleigh and Holne and Dartmoor. It is spring fed from above and at the time of visit, a copious stream of water was falling into it; a modern drainage pipe from the adjacent private garden also empties into this trough. The height of the trough and its location suggest it was a convenient watering place for passers-by. No local information about traditional use.
