This is a difficult site to find and is located in woodland some way from the town; a spring issues from the remains of a rubble stone wall into a moss and fern lined hollow. A clue to its name is the fact that the town church was once dedicated to Mary; there is a local tradition of fortune telling at this well when pins would be cast into the water and in recent times the bushes around have been hung with "clouties". This now lonely spot was once the site for processions and revels on Ascension Day and Holy Thursday.
