This well stands alongside the road at the top of Victoria Hill, next to the steps to the main car park and close to the town square. In recent times is has been provided with a new brick enclosure and canopy by the Rotary Club and turned into a wishing well type feature; it houses an old pump and trough and a number of flower baskets. This was formerly Glebe land and the well was dedicated to St Mary of Trewyn by the Rev. Thornton in 1882( Trewyn is an area at the bottom of Victoria Hill). Listed in the Devon Sites and Monuments Register Other wells dedicated to St George and St James were recorded in the town in 1887 but no information about them has yet been found.
