The well here consists of a spring which issues amongst the grass and sedges in a little hollow close to a field hedge and about 140 metres west of the church. It gains its name from the church which is dedicated to St Petroc and which was granted by King Athleston in 938AD to the famous Cornish abbey founded by St Petroc at Bodmin. Formerly there were said to be traces of a surrounding wall at the well but today only a few rubble stones mark the site which seems to have been forgotten even by local people. The site is listed in the Devon Sites and Monuments Register.
