This well is located in the garden of a 16th century cottage which incorporates the remnants of a 13 the century chapel dedicated to St Pancas ( a 14 year old Roman boy who was martyred and is the patron saint of children);the chapel was linked to the nearby Cleeve Abbey. The well is credited with curative powers and is considered to pre-date the cottage. The site is just outside of the boundary of the Exmoor National Park Site but even without the protection of the Park Authority, it is well looked after and is Grade 2 listed.
