This ancient well was renovated in 1984 and re-dedicated at that time by the Metropolitan Archbishop from the Russian Orthodox Church who had a small worshiping community here. An arched recess in a wall houses this well which is adjacent to the churchyard of St Mary's Parish church which stands on the site of a Benedictine Priory founded by King Athelstan in 10th Century. In medieval times there was a leper hospital close by. Listed in the Devon Sites and Monuments Register.
