A water source which issues from an old pipe set amongst large stones in the hillside at the junction of several National trust footpaths. Has the appearance of a Victorian "Grotto" and indeed references in a NT Walks leaflet and in the diary of the rector of Selworthy in 1824, suggest the fountain was named after the youngest daughter of Sir Thomas Ackland who owned the Estate. The Rev.Stephenson's diary notes the name of the well and as it was written only two years after Agnes was born is contemporary with the naming.....but of course the spring almost certainly existed before it was named after this member of the Ackland family and so we should not dismiss it as an ancient site.
