Impressive welhouse which was restored in 1938 and stands close to the village school and some way from the parish church  Local enquiries suggest that water from the well is no longer used in the church which has been dedicated to St Peter since at least 14th century. Place name evidence of Halghewille in 14th century and tradition of a "Saxon Oak" nearby. Well house is Grade 2 listed.
